A new Lens Of Feeling
The AUGORG team and special guest artists continue to explore movement and its relations to identity with its many developments and outcomes, connecting with landscapes, waterways, weather patterns, and currents and flows involved in navigating a space— working in a relationship that is both internal with the spirit and voice of the land, and external in the global context of events (the stage) within which the land speaks. We investigate how “dance” provocatively (re)interrogates and (re)conceptualizes fundamental questions about region, nation, and location, as well as their symbolic representations. This includes studies of both emerging and preexisting creative practices and theorization. We are in consideration of issues affecting identity and geopolitics across lands and waters as well as across the global and regional— celebrating and interrogating the connecting, mediating and negotiating power of creative practices, as well as the shifting relationships and pedagogies of integrating dance, film, interdisciplinary design, and technologically creative storytelling.
2020 - Augorg Bangladesh:
Mukta: The Insta 360 0ne X-periences
Directly linked to the 2016-2018 AUGORG Finland research project’s focus on Environmentally Adaptive Choreography, this Bangladesh Project (filmed in late 2019, completed in 2020) site specific performance continues to apply enviro-centric methodologies of movement, exploring and responding within the Bangladeshi landscape of Cox’s Bazar. Both filmmaker and dancer become an experimental bridge between identity and environment; the individual (organism) and the collective (ecosystem), the seen and unseen, locality and globality, traditional and contemporary, also closing the gap between the extreme expressions of masculinity and femininity. The purpose of the performance was to be activated by the space whilst activating healing energies in space through an intuitive awareness and a psychophysiological responsive dialogue with the natural world.

This guest vocalist in this work features an appearance from Anusheh Anadil. Anusheh is a national treasure of the Bangladeshi creative communuity and one of the county’s most well know contemporary folk artists and social activists. Anusheh's search for understanding has brought her close to the heart of music, art and philosophy that lies at the root of her birth place, Bangladesh. Bangladesh’s powerful folk arts and spirituality have become the canvas for her musical and artistic journey. She speaks for the earth. Sings for the earth. Creates with the earth. We were happy to connect and collaborate together on this project.
Mukta: behind the scenes
The following films express the projects evolving research practice into immersive environmental dance film. The first of the films below is the raw 360 capture of the edited anamorphic film above. It showcases the very emotional journey and connection between dancer and filmmaker. The second of the two films presents a unique filming of a live site specific performance and film rehearsal for the Mukta short film. It presents the edited Insta 360 one X footage along with multiple camera angles capturing the performance and filming process.
